ULC commissioner summoned over police land in Naguru.

Parliament’s Sub-Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs has summoned Uganda Land Commissions registry commissioner, Peter Opio in regard to mismanagement of police land in Naguru. The Committee chaired by Ruhinda County MP Donozio Kahonda, was recently set up by Parliament to investigate the reported mismanagement of police land. Kahonda says that the Uganda Land Commission (ULC) officials are expected to respond to queries regarding land measuring 16.52 acres located at Plot 2-96 along Katalima road in Naguru. The land in question was in 2011 leased to the United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFRI) for 99 years but ULC later subleased the same land in 2015. The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has started hunting for vehicle owners who violate the law regarding temporary road licenses. A temporary road license is issued to people intending to come into Uganda with a foreign registered vehicle or Ugandans working abroad with valid work permits. Police have accused some of the private security companies in Uganda of giving non-firing rifles to security guards as they go out to do their work. According to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, several cases in which the private security guards were found with non-firing rifles were recorded. “The Alert Squad confiscated seven guns from private security organisations after the security guards were found carrying faulty guns and in poor working condition. We recovered one unmarked gun from Vision Security, got another one from Pinnacle Security that one of the guards was carrying and was faulty.
