Muhamad Wamala sentenced to life over murder in Kayunga.

The High court in Mukono has sentenced to life imprisonment, a 45-year-old witch doctor from Kayunga, Muhamad Wamala for the murder of Zulaika Nansamba alias Mirembe. Wamala on Thursday last week appeared before justice Margret Mutonyi for sentencing. According to the prosecution, in 2017 at Kisoga village, Wamala with malice aforethought murdered Nansamba by hitting her head with a pickaxe. The prosecution relied on a post-mortem report by Dr Sam Kalungi, a pathologist at Mulago National Referral hospital. The pathologist noted that the deceased had a cracked head and succumbed to blunt trauma. In her judgment, Mutonyi, said that Wamala’s in-law Wilber Ssebuyungo who pleaded guilty to the same offences in 2019 in exchange for a lighter sentence, also implicated him on the murder charges w...

A Uganda people's defense force, Maj. Mukiranine, 44, who paid a room for accommodation at Birunga Guest House in Kiwatule on the following day was found dead. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says that upon receiving the notification of his death, a joint team of police and Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence -CMI conducted an operation around the guest house and managed to arrest the 26 suspects to help in the investigations. Joint security forces have recovered six illegal guns from Nakapiripirit in Karamoja sub-region bringing to 40, the number of illegal guns recovered in the sub-region since May 16. “Such separate recoveries and previous ones show positive energy and tireless efforts by commanders, intelligence officers, and troops who are conducting simultaneous cordon and search operations, effecting deployments in towns and suspected corridors to pacify the sub-region,” said the Third Division Second in Command, Brig Gen David Mugisha. Andrew Ojok declared winner of Omoro county by-election.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer in Omoro county, Andrew Ojok has been declared the winner in the by-election. Ojok replaces his father the late speaker Jacob Oulanyah who passed on March 20, 2022, in Seattle, Washington, United States, barely a year after being voted Speaker of the 11th Parliament. According to the results announced by Omoro district returning officer, Moses Kagona, the NRM candidate, Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, garnered 14,224 votes, while his closest contender, Simon Toolit Akecha, of National Unity Platform Party (NUP), got 1,633 votes. FDC’s Odong Justine polled 529 votes, Terrence Odon got 532 votes, Jimmy Walter Onen got 95 votes, while Oscar Kiiza, of Alliance for National Transformation party (ANT), polled only 63 votes.
