South Africa plans law change over Putin ICC arrest warrant.

South Africa plans to change its law so that it has the power to decide whether or not to arrest a leader wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC), a deputy minister. Obed Bapela’s remarks come amid intense speculation over whether South Africa stands by its invitation to Russia’s President Putin to visit in August. The ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Mr Putin over the Ukraine war. South Africa had earlier invited him to attend a summit of Brics leaders. Russia has not said whether Mr Putin plans to attend the summit. Meanwhile Pretoria has also granted diplomatic immunity to Russian officials attending, something that its foreign affairs department described as standard procedure. South Africans have taken to social media platforms to pay tributes to renowned author and broadcaster Eusebius McKaiser who died on Tuesday. His manager, Jackie Strydom said that McKaiser had suffered a suspected epileptic seizure. McKaiser also hosted talk shows on Radio 702, the Talk at Nine Show, and he presented on Interface on SABC3. He was outspoken about issues of racism and a strong advocate of the LGBT community. South Africans reacted to his death with shock on social media. President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, said the broadcaster was “a brilliant mind”.

A mass vaccination campaign against yellow fever is being planned by the Ministry of Health, under the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunisation (UNEPI) in Kabale, Kabarole, Lira, Gulu, Arua, and Hoima districts. The vaccination program, according to Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the senior public relations officer for the Ministry of Health, will target people between the ages of nine months and 60 years. Ainebyoona said in a statement that the campaign will take place from June 9 to 13, 2023. At least 40 containers of substandard maize flour were confiscated at the Nimule border, said the Chief Executive Officer of the South Sudan Bureau of Standards, Mary Gordon.
