President Museveni Optimistic of Egypt-NARO Partnership on FMD Vaccine Production

President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has welcomed the partnership between the Egyptian and Ugandan governments through the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) to start local production of vaccines for the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). This was while he met a delegation from the government of Egypt at his Kisozi farm in Gomba District over the weekend. The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, attended the engagement. The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries will receive 3 million doses of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccines from Egypt tomorrow, Thursday, to bolster efforts to curb the current outbreak affecting some parts of the country. This was confirmed today in a meeting held by the Agriculture Minister, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, with a delegation of Egyptian officials at his office in Kampala. The delegation, led by Major General Mohsen Abdel Hakam Azouz, the Director of the Veterinary Service Department in Egypt, assured the Minister that the vaccines would arrive in the country in the afternoon.
