Over 19,000 children vaccinated against measles-rubella in Gulu.

Gulu District Health Department has immunized 19,300 children below the age of five years against measles-rubella. The six days immunization drive was conducted in primary and nursery schools, and health facilities in the 11 sub-counties of the district. Dr. Kenneth Cana, the Gulu District Health Officer said on Friday that they have hit their set target of vaccinating over 19,000 children. He says initially, they had targeted vaccinating a total of 19,668 children in the one-week drive. “Overall, we achieved 98 percent of the target we were meant to get,” says Dr. Cana. Dr. Cana lauded parents for embracing the vaccination drive, arguing that such a gesture will help in fighting the disease in the region. The Bukwo LC Chairperson, Julius Moses Chelimo spent Sunday night in police custody. He was picked up by the police crime intelligence unit on Sunday from his home in Bukwo district, according to Uganda Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga. According to Enanga, police swung into action when Chelimo defied several summonses to appear and record a statement on allegations of defilement and human trafficking. Chelimo, who recently announced his resignation from the office of the LC V chairperson is accused of luring a sixteen-year-old girl into acts of sexual violence with promises of marrying her and getting her a job in November 2021. The NUP Parliamentary Caucus has contributed Shs 34 million to help stranded Ugandans in the United Arab Emirates return home (UAE). During a joint press conference conducted at Parliament on Wednesday, the money was handed over to the NUP’s Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya. The NUP launched a fundraising effort earlier this month to aid expatriate thousands of Ugandans who are stranded in Dubai. A senior four candidate of Luzira secondary school, Duncan Byambala who is accused of punching to death the school guard, Geoffrey Mugerwa on Tuesday will miss the remaining Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, police have said. Byambala is currently locked up at Jinja Road police station following his arrest on Wednesday when he showed up to sit for his UCE examinations.
