Shock gripped civilians in Kampala this morning after a security guard attached to SGA company shot himself dead under unclear circumstances. The deceased whose identity remains unknown was on duty guarding Mukwasi House on Lumumba Avenue, Kampala, when a loud gun shot startled passers by and business operators. In a matter of seconds, blood spread on the floor as the deceased fell to the ground with the gun he used to kill himself. By press time police officers had arrived at the scene and bundled the lifeless body wrapped in a black bag on to a patrol truck. The body has been transferred to the city mortuary.

Police in Tororo have arrested a security guard attached to Saracen (U) Ltd for shooting is fellow workmate dead under unclear circumstances. The deceased identified as John Okudi, 27, was murdered in cold blood by Moses Okedi while on duty guarding an Indian’s residence in Amagoro Central ward, senior quarters in Tororo Municipality. It is alleged that the two got into a fight moments before gunshots were heard. By the time locals arrived to rescue Okudi, he was cold and lying in a pool of blood. At the time of the incident, the deceased was armed with a club while his killer had a gun. The announcement was made by the Electoral Commission as it released the programme leading up to the by-election to replace its deceased MP Colonel (rtd) Charles Okello-Engola. The head of Kenya’s standards regulator and 26 other government officials have been suspended over the release of 1,000 tonnes expired sugar into the market. A statement by the head of public service, Felix Koskei, said 20,000 bags of sugar imported into the country in 2018 and condemned by the regulator had been “irregularly diverted and unprocedurally released”. The Kenya Bureau of Standards had then declared the sugar as unfit for human consumption and was set for destruction through conversion to industrial ethanol. The conversion was to be undertaken jointly by regulatory agencies. Three people are dead in an accident that occurred on Tirinyi road on Wednesday evening at about 7:30pm. The victims were travelling in a YY bus when it overturned at Sala village on Tirinyi road. The bus, numberplate UBG 400C, was travelling from Kampala to Mbale. Witnesses said that the driver lost control at Sala village, veered off the road before the bus overturned killing the three on spot and wounding an unknown number. The dead have been identified as the driver Muhamad Ntege, a resident of Namakwekwe in Mbale city and two yet to be identified male juveniles.
