The Directorate of Crime Intelligence in coordination with Iganga Police, on the 19.05.2023, tracked down and recovered Ssekajugo Augustine, a 22-year-old, second year student of Dental Surgery at Makerere University, from his hide out in Butama village, Nakalama parish in Iganga district. After an exhaustive search for him, the Police concluded that Ssekajugo, made up the whole story, which impacted negatively those, who sacrificed their time and resources to help him. Police in Mbarara have arrested Police Constable Opio Charles, following his involvement in the fatal shooting of Turyamureba Yeremiah, a UPDF officer attached to Ruhengyere Engineering Brigade in Kiruhura. The incident occurred due to a dispute over a woman. Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, stated that the tragic event stemmed from a crime of passion, with Opio allegedly harbouring resentment after witnessing the Turyamureba interact with his girlfriend and taking selfies earlier in the day on May 19. Many people think that when you are born in the boundary of Uganda, you automatically become a citizen but this might not be the case according to the National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA). Manager Legal Advisory Services at NIRA Brenda Kezaabu Agaba explained that all births that occur in the country regardless whether it is a citizen or a foreigner must be registered as long as the event took place within the boundary of Uganda. “Many people think that if you are born in Uganda, you automatically become a citizen but that is not what the law says. Our laws is different .We tittle it citizenship by birth but it is citizenship by descent,” she said. At least two fishermen drowned in the waters of the River Nile after the canoe they were sailing in capsized at Nidirindiri landing site, Palorinya sub-county in Obongi district. The duo identified as Amanga Majid, a resident of Aliba sub-county and Yasin Mundasiri, who resides in Kochi sub-county, met their death while fishing during night hours. Bodies of the deceased have been recovered and handed over relatives for burial. At least four people have so far perished in separate accidents in the River Nile within a space of five days. Obongi resident district commissioner Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, confirmed the incident. He cautioned fishermen and residents travelling on water to be extra cautious, use life jackets, and avoid using boats when it is raining.
