Police in Kyotera is hunting for a one Namubiru Jackie, a resident of Lwanzi “B” cell, Mutukula Town Council in Kyotera district, for the brutal attack on her co-wife Nakimera Lydia, aged 23, a salon owner. The incident happened on April 20 at around 4pm. The suspect injected the victim with a syringe, containing suspected poisonous substances. According to the police, she was rushed to Bulamu clinic and was later transferred to Byansi’s clinic in Masaka City in critical condition. Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) deputy spokesperson, Lt Col Deo Akiiki has refuted allegations that Private Wilson Sabiti (deceased) shot Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Col (rtd) Charles Engola dead because of not being paid his salary. Engola was shot dead on Tuesday at his home in Kyanja. Reports indicated that Sabiti (deceased), who shot the minister, was frustrated by the delay in receiving his salary and lamented his miserable circumstances just before he shot himself. Heavy rain that triggered flooding and landslides in western Rwanda has killed at least 95 people, a senior government official said on Wednesday, as authorities search for others trapped in their homes. Muddy water flowed swiftly down an inundated road and destroyed houses in a video clip posted on Twitter by the state-run Rwanda Broadcasting Agency. “Our main priority now is to reach every house that has been damaged to ensure we can rescue any person who may be trapped,” François Habitegeko, governor of Rwanda’s Western Province, told Reuters, adding that the death toll stood at 95. The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has threatened to disconnect the water supply for government agencies including the Uganda Police, the Army and Uganda prisons if they do not clear their outstanding water bills. The tragedy happened on Thursday afternoon when lightning struck the chapel of St. Peter’s Church Agober. Agnes Otembi, the wife of catechist Julius Otembi, was inside the facility and is believed to have died instantly from the hit. The lighting also struck the electricity connection in the priest’s house. Violent winds deroofed part of the chapel and uprooted cassava in a nearby garden. Ozelle Bidong, the chairperson of the church’s works committee, said Otembi was weeding her garden and when it began to rain, she sought shelter inside the church. The suspect Mwine Ambrose fled into hiding on the night of April 30, 2023 after shooting a boda boda rider identified as Ndawula Faizali in the stomach for ramming into a car occupied by with two officers.
