June 24, 2022, The Minister of State for Elderly Affairs, Hon. Gidudu noted that the Ministry had gotten wind of a number of issues including the lack of National Identity Cards, errors in details on the Cards, infirmness and hiccups in the payment system, which are disfranchising would-be beneficiaries of the monthly payments. “The Ministry is woke to these challenges and we are working with, for example, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NI...

The Court of Appeal has declared former NBS TV journalist, Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa as the duly elected Woman Member of Parliament for Mityana District. Bagala beat Lands Minister Nabakooba in the January 14 polls for the Mityana Woman MP position prompting the latter to challenge the election in court. The High Court in Mubende last year ruled that there was voter bribery, multiple voting during the January 14 polls in Mityana committed by Bagala or her agents and consequently the non-compliance with the electoral laws saw the presiding judge order for a fresh election after throwing Bagala out of parliament. Bagala challenged the same in the Court of Appeal which on Friday morning made a judgement . In the judgment, a panel of three justices including Geoffrey Kiryabwire, Stephen Musota and...

STATEMENT BY THE VICE PRESIDENT ON THE INDUSTRIAL ACTION BY UNATU.

FEATURED, Latest News, NEWS, Politics
It has been brought to my attention through the Press Release dated 11th June 2022, issued by the General Secretary of Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU), that UNATU called for industrial action by all the members of the Union with effect from 15th June 2022. The grounds of the industrial action cited in the Press Release include discriminatory salary enhancement and failure by Government to honour the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed in 2018. The Government wishes to reiterate its commitment to provide salary enhancement for all Public Officers. This is evidenced by the phased salary enhancement that has so far been achieved over the years, whose implementation will continue within the available resources. In the last two years, Government has had to put aside other prioritiesto...

The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified that the National Unity Platform (NUP) is still under the stewardship of Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine. This follows claims made this week by Moses Nkonge Kibalama who claimed that he had taken back the party leadership from the Kamwokya-based group led by Kyagulanyi. Among the reasons he gave for the decision included mismanagement and lack of transparency at Kamwokya. However, the EC, in a letter dated June 22, addressed to Kibalama and Paul Ssimbwa both NUP members, its secretary Leonard Mulekwah, has maintained that Kyagulanyi is still the party president contr...
