It has been brought to my attention through the Press Release dated 11th June 2022, issued by the General Secretary of Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU), that UNATU called for industrial action by all the members of the Union with effect from 15th June 2022. The grounds of the industrial action cited in the Press Release include discriminatory salary enhancement and failure by Government to honour the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed in 2018. The Government wishes to reiterate its commitment to provide salary enhancement for all Public Officers. This is evidenced by the phased salary enhancement that has so far been achieved over the years, whose implementation will continue within the available resources. The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified that the National Unity Platform (NUP) is still under the stewardship of Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine. This follows claims made this week by Moses Nkonge Kibalama who claimed that he had taken back the party leadership from the Kamwokya-based group led by Kyagulanyi. Among the reasons he gave for the decision included mismanagement and lack of transparency at Kamwokya. The Kibalama faction held a delegates conference and even acquired a building in Church Zone, Kabowa in Lubaga division, which it claimed would house the new offices of the party. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has agreed to lift the ban he imposed on Democratic Governance Facility (DGF), a civil society funding body whose activities were suspended last year. In a press statement issued by the Presidential Press Unit, Museveni made the commitment yesterday in Kampala while meeting the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation, Flemming Miller Mortensen.
