June 24, 2022, The Minister of State for Elderly Affairs, Hon. Mafwabi Dominic Gidudu, has reassured older persons that Government is taking all necessary steps to eliminate the challenges excluding some older persons from receiving the Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment (SAGE). While on a monitoring and supervision visit of SAGE payments in Mbale and Soroti districts on Thursday, Hon. On 18th February 2022, the Electoral Commission issued a Roadmap detailing the various activities to be conducted under the programme for elections of Women Councils and Committees from the Village to the National Level. To-date the Electoral Commission has finalised the compilation of the Village Women Residents’ Register and is currently conducting the Display of the said Registers at each Village/Cell across the country in preparation for subsequent activities, namely, nomination of candidates and polling at the Village level. The Court of Appeal has declared former NBS TV journalist, Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa as the duly elected Woman Member of Parliament for Mityana District. Bagala beat Lands Minister Nabakooba in the January 14 polls for the Mityana Woman MP position prompting the latter to challenge the election in court. The High Court in Mubende last year ruled that there was voter bribery, multiple voting during the January 14 polls in Mityana committed by Bagala or her agents and consequently the non-compliance with the electoral laws saw the presiding judge order for a fresh election after throwing Bagala out of parliament.
