The Muslim holy month of Ramadan will begin this Thursday, March 23, according to Dr Ziyad Swalleh Lubanga, director of Sharia at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).
Lubanga also announced that Taraweeh prayers at the National Mosque and other mosques across the country will commence every evening at 08:30 pm.
He then added that Islamic seminars, known as Darasas, will be conducted every Sunday from 10:00 am throughout the holy month.

At least five have been reported dead as the Marburg disease outbreak is confirmed in Tanzania this evening with neighboring countries staying alert.
Tanzania health minister Ummy Mwalimu confirmed the outbreak of Marburg virus indicating that five people had dead while three others hospitalised and contact tracing ongoing.
“Our public health laboratory results have confirmed that this disease is caused by the Marburg virus,” Ms Mwalimu said.

Homosexuals will face a death sentence upon conviction after Parliament passed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023.
The Bill as passed will attract a maximum sentence of death for persons convicted of homosexuality, while persons who attempt to commit the offence of homosexuality upon conviction, will face up to 10 years in prison.
The new law also penalizes protection and promotion of homosexuality with legal entities liable for a fine of Shs1 billion for promoting the act.
