The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Justice Simon Byabakama, has today officially handed over the former EC premises to the leadership of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).
The official handover ceremony was held at the former EC head office on Tuesday morning.
UNRA is set to demolish the facilities on the land at plot 55 Jinja Road, Kampala, to pave way for the ongoing development of the Kampala Flyover Construction and Road Upgrading Project (KFCRUP).

The joint armed forces of UPDF and Congolese FARDC have killed Elias Ssegujja, one of the most wanted and top Allied Democratic Forces(ADF) commander.
Ssegujja, alais Fezza, Feeza and Mulalo was killed in Shuja the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) during clashes with the joint forces that are part of Operation.

A woman who went missing over the weekend on her wedding has reemerged and told police that she didn’t like the man her parents chose for her.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, Bushira Najjuuko, a resident of Katereke Cell, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district who had been reported missing reappeared on Tuesday and reported herself to Nsangi police station.

Malawi has diverted flights and suspended schools in its southern districts due to Cyclone Freddy, which has killed at least 40 people, according to the country's disaster management agency.
Cyclone Freddy hit Malawi on Friday and has caused damage in at least 10 districts in the country's south. The government in Lilongwe suspended schools in southern Malawi until further notice. Police in Kisoro District are investigating circumstances under which a pupil of Kisoro primary school died after being assaulted by the teacher.
The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate said that the incident was reported by the deceased’s father, Hillary Tumusiime a resident of Ruburankono village in Gasiza Parish in Nyakabande Sub County.

The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni has urged the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) officials to be cautious on upholding education quality standards in the country.
Speaking at the launch of the NCHE’s 20-year celebrations, min. Museveni said the liberalisation of the education sector came with many players opening up higher institutions of learning, which calls for routine monitoring to ensure maximum quality.
“While the increase in the number of institutions expresses accessibility of higher education, I want to challenge NCHE to assure the quality of education and guarantee routine monitoring of the institutions of higher education, to promote the credibility of our education and products,” she said.

The Deputy Speaker of Uganda, Thomas Tayebwa has asked the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) member states to remove all non-tariff barriers.
He said that they are being handed to the entry of goods especially from developing countries.
Tayebwa made the remarks during the 146 assembly of IPU in Manama, Bahran where he mentioned bottlenecks that are obstructing the growth of some member states.
“Sometimes your supermarket shelves are empty when we have fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products rotting in our countries,” he said.
Currently, the IPU comprises 178 member parliaments and 13 associate members.
