NUP MPs contribute Shs 34m to support return of stranded Ugandans in UAE

The NUP Parliamentary Caucus has contributed Shs 34 million to help stranded Ugandans in the United Arab Emirates return home (UAE). During a joint press conference conducted at Parliament on Wednesday, the money was handed over to the NUP’s Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya. The NUP launched a fundraising effort earlier this month to aid expatriate thousands of Ugandans who are stranded in Dubai. The Nile Post understands that party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu asked his members to contribute at least a million shillings each to the campaign. A senior four candidate of Luzira secondary school, Duncan Byambala who is accused of punching to death the school guard, Geoffrey Mugerwa on Tuesday will miss the remaining Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, police have said. Byambala is currently locked up at Jinja Road police station following his arrest on Wednesday when he showed up to sit for his UCE examinations. According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, the candidate will miss his remaining papers because he is under police confinement as investigations into his case are ongoing. The headmasters of Salama school for the Blind in Kisoga Mukono district, where 11 Pupils were killed in a fire, today became increasingly angry after being told that their guest, Princess Royal Elizabeth Anne of England, had cancelled her visit to the blind school.
