The National Resistance Movement-NRM party has commenced consultations for the Soroti East by-elections ahead of the official campaign period slated for next week. According to the roadmap issued by the Electoral Commission early last month, the nomination of candidates will be conducted on July 18th and 19th before campaigns kick off for five days. The by-election will take place on July 28, 2022. But the NRM party has been holding rallies in the Constituency since July 6, 2022, when they unveiled their candidate Herbert Edmund Ariko at Moru- Apesur Primary School. 178 families could benefit after Lands and Housing Minister Judith Nabakooba canceled four land titles occupying three villages in Njeru municipality on government land. The land titles in Kidadili villages were in the names of Henry Kimuli, Twaha Kasozi and Senfuma Robert who have been keeping the residents on tension as they will be evicted from their bibanja at any time, and the bibanja owners have also been ordered to apply for land at the district. The plans of the Buikwe district to construct its headquarters at Misindye village in Buikwe TC have come under fire after the Bibanja owners insisted that they will not allow the headquarters to be built on their bibanja without being compensated. The scuffle has prompted the RDC of Buikwe District Sanoni Daala to stop the construction of the new headquarters until the issue is resolved. A private security guard is in custody at Kagadi central police station in Kagadi town council accused of shooting his colleague dead. Kagadi District Police Commander, Moses Muzima Kiconco identifies the suspect as Ogwoko,27, from Security Group Africa-SGA. He is accused of shooting his colleague Barbra Kiiza, 28, from the same security firm and resident of Kiryaba Bugambe sub county in Kikuube district. According to Muzima, Ogwoko opened fire on his colleague at Stanbic Bank-Kagadi branch in Kagadi town around 2:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. She says that it is high time students embrace dialogue with the school administrators to iron out their grievances in an amicable way instead of resorting to violence. A primary six pupil, Marlon Edobo of Anne Foundation Nursery and Primary school has been struck dead by lightning while playing football. Edobo, also the school sports prefect, was struck dead at around 4 pm on Friday in Omoo village in Ajono parish in Vurra sub-county in Arua district. Four other pupils from the same school were also injured. The identities of the injured were not readily available by the time of compiling this story. Solomon Lematia, the deputy head teacher of the school, says that the pupils were finalizing a practice session for the upcoming primary schools football tournament.
