The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among has condemned the circumstances under which a student lost a life as a result of guild elections.
“We need peace and I urge you to be agents of peace. We can’t lose a life campaign should not be a matter of life and death. I want to convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, management of Makerere University, Uganda Christian University and the entire students’ body and this kind of violence must stop,” said Among.
She made her remarks during her communication to the House that media has been awash with stories of the murdered student with a call to legislators to be agents of peace saying that politics should not be at the cost of a life.

The Ministry of Education and Sports has ordered the cancellation of contracts and recovery of funds advanced to contractors for stalled seed schools in 15 districts.
In the financial year 2018/19, the World Bank partnered with the education ministry to construct and fully equip secondary schools in sub-counties without public secondary schools under the Uganda Inter-Governmental Fiscal Transfers-UgIFT program. The first phase covered 117 schools that were expected to be completed in one year.

The leader of the National Unity Platform(NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has lashed out at some opposition members for accusing NUP of being behind the death of Betungura Bewatte of Uganda Christian University (UCU).
Bewatte, a second-year law student at UCU was stabbed on July 14 in a scuffle that ensued when supporters of NUP guild presidential candidate blocked the procession of Justus Tukamushaba, the Forum for Democratic guild presidential candidate at Makerere Rugby Grounds.
