The National Unity Platform (NUP) has announced that they will not front any candidate for the upcoming by-election for Soroti East Constituency in Soroti City but rather supports FDC’s sole candidate Attan Moses. On May 24th, 2022, the Court of Appeal declared the Soroti East MP seat vacant on grounds that the Electoral Commission failed to conduct free and fair polls. The judgment stemmed from an appeal by a voter challenging the annexation and transfer Opiyai and Aloet wards from Soroti City East to Soroti City West after the nomination of the candidates, which disfranchised and denied over 4560 voters the right to exercise their constitutional right to vote for the leader of their choice. In a long running campaign under the theme, Every Mother count, Stanbic Bank and MTN Uganda, have donated various items to Kawempe National Referral Hospital in support of the government’s efforts to improve maternal health care services. The campaign, which was initiated by Stanbic Bank two years ago, has seen several companies donate supplies and equipment in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Three (SDG3) to accelerate the decline of maternal mortality by 2030. In today’s donation, Stanbic Bank handed over 1,000 Mama Kits and 115 ward curtains to accord privacy to the ladies in the labour wards. Another man dies during UWA recruitment exercise  in Gulu.

A prospective recruit to the Uganda Wildlife Authority-UWA has died after participating in a 5 kilometer fitness run in Gulu city. The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Jacob Opiyo, a resident of Kitgum District. He was pronounced dead at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital on Wednesday evening where he was rushed for emergency treatment. Opiyo reportedly collapsed shortly after completing the 5 Km run in the ongoing recruitment of UWA rangers. Bashir Hangi, the UWA Communications Manager confirmed Opiyo’s death to Uganda Radio Network in an interview. He said the deceased became dizzy after successfully completing the 5 Km race and was rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital where he died later. President Museveni appoints new  Uganda Airlines CEO.

President Yoweri Museveni ordered the appointment of Jennifer Bamuturaki as the substantive chief executive officer of Uganda Airlines. In a letter dated April 24, 2022, Museveni made the directive on her appointment to Gen Katumba Wamala, the minister of Works and Transport. Katumba then wrote to Priscilla Mirembe Serukka, the chairperson of the board of directors of the airline to implement the presidential directive. Katumba authored the letter on July 5. Since it started operating commercial flights in 2019, the (revived) Uganda National Airlines Company Ltd, trading as Uganda Airlines has been managed by Ephraim Bagenda, Cornwell Muleya and Bamuturaki.
