Voting kicked off by 8:am sharp in most areas in Kayunga district as people decides on who to be as their next LC5 chairman. In some areas, voters turned up as early as 6am but had to wait until the 7am stipulated time whereas in some areas, the election materials arrived in time for voting to take place but the exercise could not take place because the stipulated number of voters had not yet arrived. The Uganda Sports Fraternity is in mourning following the demise of former Rugby Cranes coach Robert Seguya.Seguya, who also captained the national team, succumbed to Leukemia on Tuesday night at the age of 43.At the start of November, Seguya was cleared of Leukemia according to his medical tests from the Cancer Institute.Family members said that Seguya started feeling unwell on Sunday and was rushed back to Mulago hospital where he died.Toyota buffalos captain Wilfred Seguya, also son to the late, said that the family and the country has lost a great legend. Opposition National Unity Platform candidate in the Kayunga LCV by-election, Harriet Nakweede has been blocked by police from holding her last campaign rally. According to the harmonized campaign program, Nakweede was supposed to conduct her final campaigns in Kayunga town council. At least 90 illegal residents have taken over 47 acres of land owned by Buganda Kingdom queen Sylvia Nagginda’s foundation- the Nabagereka Development foundation (NDF) in Wakiso. And the NDF has reported the theft of their land to the head of the State House Anti-Corruption unit (SHACU) headed by Col. Edith Nakalema who has initiated a multi stakeholder engagement to look into the matter. NDF’s land is Sisa and Mpuuga both registered as Busiro Block 495 Plot 69 at Buswa Sisa with a 22 acre size and Busiro Block 274 Plot 225 at Mpuuga measuring 25 acres. At least two inmates from Kakondo Prisons in Lyantonde District died and about seven others sustained severe injuries following a Wednesday morning road accident at Kiterede Village, Malango Sub-county in Lwengo District.When contacted on Wednesday, Uganda Prisons Spokesperson Mr Frank Baine, confirmed the incident. The deceased have been identified as Isheme Willy aka Regan and Kagwa John who were respectively battling cattle theft and theft charges. According to Mr. Baine, the two were part of the 10 prisoners and two prison staff who were heading for labour. The deceased’s bodies have been taken to Lyantonde hospital Mortuary. Uganda is amongst the nine countries that has been confirmed with the deadly Omicron disease, with some officials reporting that initial cases appear to be mild. Other countries reported with omicron include: Botswana, Ghana, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Zimbabwe. South Africa remains the epicenter of the omicron outbreak, with experts saying that the overwhelming majority of its thousands of new cases per day are of the new variant.Today, health minister Jane Ruth Aceng confirmed the seven cases of the disease.
