Government has directed schools to ensure early examinations for non-candidate classes , a move will see schools close early for third term holidays. “Cabinet considered and approved a proposal from the Ministry of Health to reduce the third term by two weeks so as to decongest schools that are likely to increase vulnerability of children to Ebola infections. The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni has directed authorities at the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) to ensure that P.7 candidates who have been isolated as Ebola suspects write their final examination. The Minister made the comments in her public statement on Ebola and the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), encouraging UNEB to coordinate with the ministry of health to make the necessary arrangements. “No Ebola contact or case that is willing to sit their end of cycle exams should be denied the opportunity to sit their exams…We have guided UNEB to ensure that as much as possible, learners affected by the Ebola Virus Disease, either as case or identified contacts sit their examination from the very schools they have been studying from…,” her message reads ...

The ministry of Education has directed schools (both government and private) to allow pupils and students sit for their final examinations without completing school fees for those who can not afford. This was revealed by the minister of state for Primary Education, Joyce Moriku Kaducu in Parliament while responding to questions from MPs. She said that the advance in technology had made the school administrators strict on payment of dues before exams are administered. “Once a child (candidate) is registered, results are obtained online, but we have taken it up and pledge to ensure that P.7 and S.6 candidates all sit their exams [even those who have not completed fees],” Moriku said. The headmasters of Salama school for the Blind in Kisoga Mukono district, where 11 Pupils were killed in a fire, today became increasingly angry after being told that their guest, Princess Royal Elizabeth Anne of England, had cancelled her visit to the blind school. Cabinet ministers in Uganda will next week start undergoing compulsory Kiswahili lessons to enhance their fluency in the language. Police in Kampala have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which a senior four student at Luzira Senior Secondary School in Kampala punched the school security guard to death on Tuesday. Head teachers in secondary schools in Mukono have been warned against examination malpractices during this period as students are sitting for their final exams as it could lead to prosecutions. The warning was sounded by Jovita Kobumanzi the chief scout from the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) while handing over exams to teachers and head teachers at Mukono central police station. Jovita Kobumanzi, Chief Scout from the National Examinations Authority, warned school authorities to avoid submitting an inconsistent number of students as this could lead to disciplinary action.
