Grade 1 Magustrate’s Court in Nabweru today convicted Nalwadda Amina, who pleaded guilty of aiding impersonation, as a form of examinations malpractice.
Nalwadda Amina, is the Aunt/guardian of Namuwonge Hudah, a candidate of Kawempe Standard S.S. Nalwadda Amina offered to pay off
An S.3 student, Emmanuel Muwonge, from another school, to write examinations for her daughter. Both students were dully registered as candidates candidates of Kawempe Stanard SS.
Grade 1 Magistrate, Her Worship Mukasa Sanyu, sentenced Nalwadda Amina to fine of 4.8Mln shillings or a custodial sentence of 1 year.
Her co-accused, Hamala Moses, the Head Teacher of Kawempe SS, where the malpractice occurred, was released on a none cash bail of 5ml Shillings till 7th November, 2022.
The other suspect, Kigozi Godfrey, who provided the student for impersonation, is still on the run. Police is tracking him down.
The malpractice occurred on Monday October 17, during the mathematics paper.
The candidates will be tried in a juvenile court since they are minors. In the meantime, they are being allowed to write their examinations.
Under the UNEB Act 2021, impersonation attracts a fine of twenty million shillings or a term of imprisonment not exceeding 5 years, or both.
According to the magistrate, Her Worship Mukasa Sanyu, the reduced sentence was based on the fact that theu accused is a 1st time offender, and did not waste court’s time, when she pleaded guilty of the offence.
