Minister of State for Cooperatives Hon Fredrick Gume Ngobi saw off a delegation of Busoga Local Government leaders to Beijing China on Monday 4th Sept 2023 for a 3 weeks Benchmarking and Capacity building program courtesy of the Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD), the Government of Uganda and the Government of People’s Republic of China. Two health officials from Bugobero Health Centre IV in Manafwa district are now in police custody following the tragic death of an expecting mother who suffered a ruptured uterus due to prolonged neglect during labor. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sara Bulali, a medical officer, and Sandra Cebutai, a midwife. The incident came to light when Bila Nabisawa, a 42-year-old resident of Bukhofu subcounty, lost her life after enduring 14 agonizing hours at the health facility. The Anti-Corruption court has extended the arrest warrant issued against David Livingstone Ebiru, the former executive director of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS). This is after Ebiru failed to appear for the second time to answer charges related to offering a bribe. The warrant of arrest earlier issued on August 8 was extended to September 28 by chief magistrate Joan Aciro requiring police to arrest Ebiru immediately upon sight and force him to come and be charged. The prosecution alleges that between October 2022 and December 2022, Ebiru corruptly offered a gratification of Shs 100 million to Charles Masekuura, the chairperson of the UNBS board, in an attempt to secure his position as the executive director of UNBS.
