Yumbe Magistrate's court has sentenced a teacher of Kumari primary school in Koboko district to eight years in jail for defilement. Bosco Atiku, 36, defiled the primary seven pupil of Omgbokolo primary school in Yumbe district. Atiku was arrested from Kumari primary school earlier in March by Arafa sub-county officials. Court presided over by Yumbe chief magistrate Freddie Awacnedi heard that Atiku while at Mongoyo village in Lobule sub county defiled the girl at his home. Prosecution also told court that Atiku confined the girl for about four days at his residence by means of deception for the purpose of sexual exploitation. Supreme court justice Kisaakye retires from judiciary.

Supreme court justice Dr Esther Kitimbo Kisaakye has retired from the judiciary seven years early. Details of her early retirement are communicated in a letter written to President Yoweri Museveni dated July 18. According to the letter, Kisaakye says that Museveni appointed her to serve as a justice of the Supreme court on October 12, 2009 and by the time she wrote this letter, she had served in the Supreme court for 13 years and ten months. "Article 144 (1) of the Constitution of Uganda permits a judicial officer to retire at any time after attaining the age of sixty years. I am now aged 63 years. Over 3,000 residents in Agago are excited over a 500-million Shillings water project. The project to be funded by the Lutheran World Federation- LWF in partnership with Agago District Local Government is aimed at drilling 13 and repairing 44 boreholes in eight sub-counties in Agago in the financial year 2023/2024. The sub-counties to benefit from the water project are; Parabongo, Lapono, patongo, Kuywee, Lukole, Lira kato, Wol and Kotomor.
