The reduction follows a 30 per cent decrease in assistance last April, which coincided with the COVID-19 lockdown. “COVID-19 must not be an excuse for the world to turn its back on refugees at this terrible time”, WFP Country Director El-Khidir Daloum said on Tuesday.  “We are unable to keep up even basic food assistance and the poorest will suffer the most as we have to cut...

“Do not Underestimate South Sudan” Coach Mckinstry Warns

FEATURED, NEWS, SPORTS
Uganda manager Jonathan McKinstry has warned that South Sudan will not be easy opponents in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Cranes will face South Sudan – who have only been a CAF and FIFA member since 2012 – on November 12 and 16 as they look to keep their place at the top of Group B. “We want to maintain our group’s top position and we want to come out of these two South Sudan games still holding onto that first place spot,” McKinstry is quoted by The Sports Nation. “We know if we can pick up these maximum points that might be enough to seal off qualification depending on the results between Malawi and Burkina Faso. “But regardless of that we have to go on and put up a top performance because South Sudan has improved a lot basing on their last inter...

The World Food Program (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) detected increasing levels of acute starvation in Burkina Faso, Nigeria, South Sudan, and Yemen. In these countries, the risk of famine is currently high. The UN agencies explained that these nations are going through conflicts, economic crises, climatic disasters, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The combination of all these factors results in an increase in food insecurity among their inhabitants. "These countries already had significant food security problems at the beginning of 2020 and will face a further deterioration of their situation in the coming months," WFP expert Claudia Ah Po...

Since Machar returned to Juba in February this year, defections have increased with senior political leaders loyal to Kiir and Machar switching sides, raising regional and international concerns over the fate of the already fragile peace agreement.
