Prof. Kabanza Mbonye is Dead

Prof. Anthony Kabanza Mbonye, husband to Lucy Nakyobe Mbonye, the out going State House comptroller, has died. The former director general Health Services died Sunday morning, according to statement from State House. “We regret to announce the passing of Prof. Anthony Kabanza Mbonye, husband to Lucy Nakyobe Mbonye, the out going State house comptroller,” State House tweeted on Sunday. Prof Mbonye resigned from Ministry of Health in 2018 after serving for more than 30 years. Mbonye who earned his PhD from the university of Copenhagen also taught at Makerere University School of Public Health since 1996 and at the Uganda Christian University since 2008.

Prof William Bazeyo the deputy vice chancellor Finance and Administration of Makerere University has resigned from his duties at the University. The reasons for Bazeyo’s tendering in of his resignation are yet to be known. William Bazeyo, is a Ugandan physician, public health specialist, academic, researcher, and academic administrator. University Wins £500k Grant to help Combat COVID-19 in Uganda

The University of Salford’s School of Science, Engineering & Environment has been awarded more than £500,000 to address the threat of COVID-19 in Uganda. The project is funded by UK Research and Innovation through the UK Government’s Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and the Newton Fund. This funding is one of the 20 projects that have been announced by the UKRI aimed at developing solutions to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 for some of the world’s most disadvantaged people. Makerere University has donated three Touchless Handwashing (Tw-20) Kits to Mulago National Referral Hospital and another one to the College of Health Sciences (CHS). The donation was presided over by the university Vice-Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe at the University Main Hall during the media engagement and handover ceremony on 24th August, 2020.
