E.C Clears Supporters Of Museveni, Gen. Tumukunde For Nomination

By Keefa Nuwahereza

The Electoral Commission has cleared supporters of candidates aspiring  to contest for the presidency in the 2021 election.

The supporters who have been cleared so far by the E.C are those of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Gen. Henry Tumukunde, Fred Mwesigye and Kalembe Nancy Linda who are all contesting as Independent candidates.

The rest of the supporters of other candidates who include Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, are  yet to be verified and cleared by the Commission.

It should be noted that the Commission set as one of the regulations for nominations that every presidential candidate should go to the nomination venue, which is Kyambogo University Sports Grounds,  with not more than 10 supporters on the day of nomination.

Shortly after verifying the supporters for the above candidates, the E.C posted on their social media platforms on Sunday thus;

 “The Electoral Commission has verified & cleared supporters of 4 aspiring candidates for the 2021 Presidential Elections. They are Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (NRM), Mwesigye Fred (Indep), Tumukunde Henry Kakurugu (Indep) & Kalembe Nancy Linda (Indep). The verification of supporters of 18 others aspiring candidates who have submitted their lists is still ongoing.”

We shall bring you updates as they come in from the Justice Simon Byabakama’s Commission, which has since set November 2 and 3rd as the nomination dates for Presidential candidates.
