Jacob Kiplimo Wins Rome 3000m Race

Jacob Kiplimo has broken Moses Kipsiro’s national record (7:30.95) in the 3000m after winning an intriguing Rome Diamond League race Thursday night.

The 19-year-old Ugandan beat Jacob Ingesbrigtsen on the home straight to claim the victory. Ingesbrigtsen crossed in 7:27.05, also a Norwegian record while Australian Stewart McSweyn came third in 7:28.02.

The former junior world cross country champion’s 7:26.64 is a new national record over that distance and it is also the fastest time since 2007.

Kiplimo’s victory comes barely ten days after winning the 5000m at Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
