Joshua Cheptegei’s 10,000m WORLD record officially valid

Cheptegei smashed a long standing record held by Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele when he set 26:11.00 at the NN Valencia World Record Day on October 7 this year.

Cheptegei’s performance came less than two months after he broke the World 5000m record in Monaco, which has since been ratified as well.

On Sunday, World Athletics also ratified Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey who set a record in 5000m (women).

Its been a fantastic year for the Ugandan who also broke the 5km on the roads (12:51).
