Two bodies recovered as three rescued after boat capsizes in Mukono

Police at Mukono are currently investigating an incident of drowning that happened on 10/04/2022 at about 2000/c in Mpatta sub-county Mawotto landing site.

Two bodies have been recovered after a boat capsized in Lake Victoria on Sunday evening. The vessel had five people on board and reportedly left Mawotto landing site in Mpatta sub county in Mukono district en route to Luzira portbell in Kampala city.

Locals claim the boat was heavily loaded with sacks of food stuffs and firewood and on their way they faced a heavy storm, a thing they suspect could have caused the sinking.

The survivors have been identified by only one name as Bosco, Bwire and Kalimbwe, while those that drowned were also identified with one name as Kenneth Mutalwa and Martin Onzere all residents of Mpatta village.

Hamidu Lubowa the GISO of Mpatta subcounty, attributed to the strong winds that as the cause of the accident, he also blamed the police Marine for not doing enough to crackdown the illegal boats on the lake.

” Such incidents would be avoided but the marine police are being bribed thus living the poor conditioned boats to carry people” said Lubowa.

All bodies of the deceased persons were retrieved by the fishermen and later conveyed to the family for burial as police investigates.
