Police in Kampala have arrested a teacher at Ibun Masood Nursery and Primary School for battering a cook at his school to death.
The suspect Umar Kabogo is currently in police custody at Katwe police station for murdering Moses Mugisha.
The incident happened on May 09, 2023 at about 7;30 am in Bunamwaya, Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality, in Wakiso district. It is alleged that Kabogo locked up his victim in a cubicle at one of the boys’ dormitory and beat him to a pulp, while accusing him of stealing his 50,000 shillings.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman says it took the help of Muslims praying at the school premises to rescue Mugisha but said it was already late at the time as he was unconscious when the doors were burst open.
One of the eye witnesses identified as Kyabakonzo claims Mugisha died moments before he arrived in hospital.
“We decided to take him to Lubaga Hospital at around 8 pm. However, he spent a few minutes and he was pronounced dead. Kabogo decided to follow us to the hospital amidst fears about his actions. I told the doctors and nurses what had happened. They told me to convince him to come to the hospital. We alerted the hospital police, which arrested him,” Kyabakonzo said.
Onyango says the suspect has been charged with assault causing death, and the police collected exhibits from the scene of the incident. He says Kabogo’s file is expected to be sent to the Makindye resident state attorney for prosecution.
