Court of Appeal Upholds Jail Sentences for Lwamafa, Kunsa

Court of Appeal Upholds Jail Sentences of a nine-year jail term that handed to the Former Permanent Secretary Ministry of Public Service Jimmy Lwamafa and Commissioner in charge of compensation department Stephen Kiwanuka Kunsa by anti-corruption court for defrauding 15.4 billion shillings of pensioners money. The Court of appeal justices led by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire (Remmy Kasule and Muzamiru Mutangula Kibeedi) unanimously ruled that the accused were lawfully convicted by lower court and should serve the 9-year jail term. The court also upheld the order of compensation of 3.4 billion shillings each against Lwamafa and Kunsa in addition to barring them from holding a public office for 10 years.

By Keefa Nuwahereza The court of Appeal on Tuesday morning dismissed an appeal that had been filed by Bank of Uganda, contesting a 2019 ruling by High Court Justice David K. Wangutusi,  in which he ruled that Bank of Uganda had no legal capacity to sue Sudhir Ruparelia on behalf of Crane Bank, which was under receivership. The Matter arose from a case filed by BoU against Sudhir in 2016, alleging that the tycoon and others had pocketed Shs397Bn from Crane Bank prior to its being wound up and sold to dfcu  Bank.
