Shock as mother and son suffocate to death in Mukono

Police in Mukono municipality have started investigating the cause of the death of the two people, whose bodies were found lying in a single rented room at Nabuti Kilombe Village in Mukono central division.

The deceased are a 49 years Margret Namusoke and 19 years Kevin Mukasa, the two were found dead by a neighbor who knocked and there was no response inside, he alerted the local area chairman who called Mukono police.

The residents in the Nabuti village say the deceased could have died of suffocation because inside the room they discovered the two were cooking maize on a charcoal stove overnight.

“We found a maize sauce pan inside and it might be the cause of their death, and still the room is contested with other belongings” said the residents.

The two went to bed leaving some maize boiling on a charcoal stove that they had placed inside their room, leading to the suffocation of the victims.

Residents also noted that lack of space for people to construct Houses with separate kitchens are the cause of such incidents.

“Everything has changed we no longer have land for such facilities as it used to be in the past, people are squeezed in 30*30 plots where they cannot afford to build kitchens” said Desilanta Nakitto.

According to Emanuel Ngoobi the LC 1 leader, Namusoke had misunderstandings with her husband and decided to seek refuge in a single rented room with her son, the two have been casual labourers in the area in support of their livelihoods.
Ngoobi castigated the residents to always desist from cooking inside their houses to avoid future further deadly incidents
Mukono police later drove the two bodies to Mulago hospital for postmortem.
