NAADS Flags off 90 Tons Of Seeds To Karamoja Region

In the bid to eliminate food insecurity in the Karamoja region, the government through its NAADS project has taken a decision to disburse seeds to the region so that the people can grow their own food, this is in addition to the food relief that was distributed by the office of the prime minister.
The consignment consisted of tepary beans, Cowpeas, Maize and soya beans of seeds were today flagged off by Minister of state for Agriculture Fred Kyakulaga and Minister for Karamoja affairs Maria Gorethi Kitutu at the equator seeds Head offices at Namanve in Mukono, The act was welcomed by the members of parliament from Karamoja who were at the event.
Dr. Samuel Mugasa the executive director National agriculture advisory services NAADS appealed to the Karamoja region leaders to fully consider the most vulnerable households and make sure that the beneficiaries utilize this rainy season to plant the seeds.
The state minister for agriculture Hon. Bwiino Fred Kyakulaga, stressed that government to intervene by providing quick maturing crops, provide irrigation machines to large scale farmers so that they can be able to do farming in even in dry season
Maria Gorret Kitutu, the minister for Karamoja affairs, attributed the escalating hunger in Karamoja to the insecurity that caused unrest and the people could not concentrate on farming. She advised them to engage in agriculture since the area is settled.
