How Buganda Clan chief Daniel Bbosa was gunned down, wife escaped unhurt

On Sunday evening, another spate of gun violence rocked the country when assailants riding on a motorcycle sprayed bullets at Eng Daniel Bbosa Lwomwa, the Head of Ndiga (Sheep) clan in the Buganda Kingdom killing him on the spot.
The 6 pm shooting at Kikandwa Zone, Lungujja Parish, Lubaga Division., a Kampala suburb, came barely a week after Police released the Annual Crime Report 2023 throwing the country in the embers of shock and fear.
Inside Mr Bbosa’s motor vehicle, Reg No UAH 637X was his wife in the co-driver’s seat, who according to reports survived unhurt, an indication that the assailants primarily had their target on demand.
According to reports (not by police), the slain clan chief who is an Engineer by profession and the Director of Transa Electrical had earlier in the day held a meeting with Ndiga clan members in Buikwe District, where he was accompanied by his wife.
After the meeting, Mr Bbosa departed for Kampala and along the way, the assailants who were riding on a motorcycle, trailed him and shot at his car a few meters away from his home in Kikandwa, Lungujja parish, Lubaga Division.
“Upon hearing gunshots, Omutaka stopped the car. The assailants later ended his life with close-range shooting. His wife, who occupied the co-driver’s seat, survived unhurt,” says BBS TV Journalist Culton Scovia Nakamya in a post via her official X account.
When motorists and other locals heard of the gruesome incident, they retaliated and chased the two assailants using bodabodas. One of them attempted to shoot at them. However, the gun slid into the wheels, causing the bike to lose control and go off the road.
A mob justice later ensued as locals confronted the assailants, resulting in the death of one assailant at the scene, while the other remains in critical condition and under police custody. ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police in a Sunday police statement said police were actively investigating the murder-by-shooting tragic incident in which the Buganda clan chief lost his life.
“The incident involved Mr Daniel Bbosa, the esteemed head of Ndiga clan and director of Transa Electrical. Mr Bbosa was fatally shot by yet-to-be-identified assailants as he was approaching his residence,” a statement by Mr Owoyesigyire read on Sunday, hours after the gruesome shooting.
Mr Owoyesigyire said the motive behind the murder was yet to be known but emphasized that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
He added that the firearm used in the shooting was also recovered by police, along with the motorcycle registration number UEX 754E, utilized by the assailants.
