Kampala Hospital finally handed over the body of the fallen Mukono Doctor on tuff conditions, Isma Kizito who succumbed to covid-19, on Sunday night
The body of Dr. Isma has been detained for two days at Kampala hospital, after the family failed to raise 68 Millions two weeks medical bills.
Ssesanga Esperito, a maternal uncle to the deceased, expressed concern over Kampala hospital’s greed for money, he added that it was unfair to ask them 90 millions in just two weeks.
“How can they hike the medical charges to a fellow doctor who goes through the same hardships as them?” Asked Ssesanga
Ssesanga narrated to mourners at Gita village in Kasangati town council the ups and downs the family went through in raising half of the money to secure the body from Kampala hospital.
Marris Nakayaga a family member, revealed that they deposited 30 millions the day they admitted the patient, but to their surprise the hospital brought in a new bill of 68 millions.
“In the closed door meeting, the hospital management insisted that we first clear the bill to get the body, lawyers of the hospital gave us another alternative, of handing over the land title of one the properties of the deceased as a security.” Narrated Marris
The family says that after failing to raise the required money they engaged the Mukono municipality member of Parliament Betty Nambooze, who requested the hospital to detain her untill she pays the 64 millions balance, however the hospital did not listen to her plea.
Later the hospital management made the widow sign in (MOU) on terms of offering the land title as security, and in case they fail to raise the balance 64 Millions in one month period the Kampala hospital is to involve court bailiffs to demand the money.
“They locked us out of the meeting, and made the widow sign the memorandum of understanding without on tuff conditions of confiscating the properties of the the late, they did not involve us as family members” said Nakayaga
After the memorandum of understanding the hospital, the hospital handed over the body to the family for burial at Gita Village Kasangati town council.
Before taking the body to the ancestral home for burial, it was first driven through Mukono town to his hospital with a fleet of ambulances escorting it, amidst tears from family and Mukono Medical hospital staff.
