Villagers stranded as bridge to health center washes away.

One hundred and nine households, with 363 people residing in Acan-lin village, Anyomolyec parish, Otwal sub-county, Oyam district, are in a dilemma after a bridge that connects them to Acokara Health Center II was recently cut off by running water.
Acan-lin village is one kilometer from Acokara Health Center II, but between September and November this year, Angolo bridge, connecting them to the health center, was washed away by heavy downpour.
Opio Samuel, the LC1 chairperson of Acan-lin village, says the bridge is causing many problems locally and has led to the loss of lives, especially for pregnant mothers who cannot access health services during childbirth.
However, Balam Anim, the LC3 chairperson of Otwal sub-county, when contacted, confirmed the challenges with the bridge. He stated that the sub-county currently has no funds available for road maintenance because they only received 9 million from the Central government under the Uganda Road Fund (URF) this year, which is insufficient for road rehabilitation.
