Police in Mayuge District have arrested a 19 year old boy for stealing from a mosque.
The suspect Awusi Mukiibi, a resident from Imanyiro trading center in Imanyiro sub-county, Mayuge district, stole various electrical appliances from Masjid Jamil mosque and later attempted to sell them off to a local trader at a cheaper price.
According to police, among the stolen items include; a solar panel, batteries, a sound system, and other electrical appliances.
The Mayuge District District Police Commander, Bashir Siriba, says that the suspect is in custody at Mayuge Central Police Station for theft and trespass on private property.
He says Mukiibi confessed to the crime at police after the trader reported him upon realizing he was selling expensive items at a give away price.
The Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Abu Mulinda, attributes the increased cases of theft in the area to youth unemployment.
