Gulu University faces property damage in severe rainstorm.

Gulu University’s main campus experienced significant property damage due to a heavy downpour on Wednesday evening, according to university officials. The stormy rains, which occurred between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm, resulted in the destruction of several roofs, uprooted trees, and the displacement of two large tents.
The University Communications Officer, Mr. James Ojok Onono, provided details about the affected areas. Roofs at the Faculty of Business and Development Studies’ Accounts Section, the Faculty of Education and Humanities’ offices, the front rear of the Academic Registrar’s Building, and the Main Library were among the structures damaged. Additionally, the university’s forested study area known as ‘Garamba’ saw numerous trees fall during the storm. A tree behind the Administration block was uprooted, damaging the water reservoir tank.
The heavy rainfall also had an impact on vehicles in the university yard, as five vehicles belonging to staff and students suffered damage when falling trees smashed their windscreens and mirrors. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
To prevent potential accidents caused by live electric wires, the University Secretary, Mr. David Obol Otori, ordered the temporary disconnection of electricity. He also called for immediate, temporary repairs to the library roof to prevent further damage to the library’s collection. Additionally, security measures were heightened due to the destruction of a section of the perimeter fence behind the finance building.
