Two people were reportedly killed on the spot, and six others sustained injuries in a fatal road accident that occurred last night on the 9th of November 2023 at around 23:00 hours at Adyel along Kampala road.
AIt is alleged that a motor vehicle, Reg No UAW 395P Fuso fighter, driven by an unidentified person, was heading to Lira City through Cathedral.
However, upon reaching Adyel near Standard High School, the driver lost control and collided with a Tricycle, Reg number UEC 698A, red in color, driven by Abura Aron, aged 24.
Abura is a resident of Tetugu Village in Lira City West Division, Lira City. According to the police spokesperson for North Kyoga Region, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, in a statement issued on Friday to the media, six people sustained injuries, while two other passengers died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Obua Sam, aged 18, and Okwee Kizito, aged 23, both residents of Kirombe East in Lira City West Division. Other passengers who sustained injuries are Okeng Daniel, aged 24, Oyanga only, aged 16, Ayoo Joshua, aged 16, Obua Innocent, aged 19, all residents of Kirombe East in Lira City West Division, and Ongora Ambrose, aged 25, a resident of Kuluhalii Allow Village in Lira City West Division.
SP Okema said the scene was visited by a team of police officers led by the traffic police. All these victims were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, while the deceased bodies were taken to the mortuary pending postmortem. Both the motor vehicle and Tricycle were taken to Lira City CPS pending inspection by the IOV.
