
The victim is major. Mark Wanyama attached to Updf audit and finance department, a group of 38 goons attacked the home in broad daylight and demolished it completely accusing him of owning the land illegally.
The illegal act occurred at Mbeya Island in Mpunge Sub county, Mukono District leaving the Islanders in fear.
Luke Owoyesigire the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala metropolitan confirmed the incident saying that, after demolishing the house, the goons escaped using water channels but they were unlucky after Marine police intercepted them and arrested all of them.
“These goons took off and boarded waiting boats but we immediately got information and contacted Katosi police and marines intercepted them in the middle of the water, arrested them and brought them to Katosi police, “Luke Owoyesigire said.
Luke Owoyesigire said that these goons came from kisenyi in Kampala adding that police are still investigating the motives of them demolishing a UPDF Major’s home.
Other houses were set on fire and a chain link fence was also knocked to the ground, according to Kasirye Yasin, a resident of the Mbeya island, told us that they saw two boats carrying people coming by, and thought the passengers were on their own but soon, the youths left boats, armed with pangas, hammers, and started knocking.
As the goons knocked, the house the residents also teamed up to defend tje major’s House and one Namara Karuhanga, who was leading the attack, was surrounded by the residents and stabbed.
Maj. Wanyama, who allegedly owns the 25 acres, said he actually bought it from Mr Tyaba Francis, and was surprised to see Twinamasiko coming with a court order claiming it was his.
However Jackson Twinamasiko, on the phone interview revealed that he is the lawful owner of the land, and Wanyama because he is a soldier he wanted to use his position to grab his land.
The arrested youth will appear before Mukono court on March, 20th 2023 after making statements.
