Rakai Hospital Closed Down After Surgeon Tests Positive For COVID-19

By Our Reporter The Ministry of Health has decided to temporarily close down Rakai Hospital after one of the surgeons tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19). According to our sources, the surgeon (names withheld on request) tested positive for COVID-19 following tests conducted by the Ministry of Health on Sunday September 20th,2020. Immediately after receiving results of the tests, we have established that Ministry officials went to Rakai Hospital and took the surgeon into mandatory quarantine, plus all his colleagues with whom he was working in the hospital’s theatre, before they announced a temporary closure of the health facility. Among deceased is a mother and her year-old baby, police say At least six bodies of people who drowned in Sezibwa River, Central Uganda when their boat capsized were retrieved on Sunday. Among the deceased is a mother and her year-old baby, police spokesperson Hellen Butoto said. Three people who managed to swim held onto shrubs until they were rescued, she added. "Using risky canoes [boats] in disregard of safety measures should be blamed for the accident," said a local administrator. Uganda has no authority or marine traffic police specifically charged with regulating water transport. The existing Marine Police only check smuggling, and not safety on water bodies.

Uganda Registers Highest Daily Increase of New COVID-19 Cases

Uganda's ministry of health on Saturday recorded 423 new cases of COVID-19, the highest daily increase since the outbreak, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 6,017. Out of the 2,320 samples collected over the past 24 hours, 411 contacts and alerts cases, 12 returnees from Saudi Arabia, India and Jordan tested positive for the novel coronavirus, said a ministry in a statement. Out of the 411 contacts and alerts that tested positive for COVID-19, 166 are prison inmates under quarantine in Moroto,it said. Amuru Prison is just like any other prisons facility in Uganda with prisoners going about their daily chores and routines under the watchful eyes of wardens.
