Full Uganda Cranes Delegation For Dubai Training Camp

The Uganda Cranes head coach Johnathan McKinstry has released the full delegation of players and officials that depart on Sunday evening for Dubai training camp aboard Emirates Air at 5 PM. There are 26 players and 14 officials who depart via Entebbe International Airport for the 10 day’s training camp. ‘A number of players were unfortunately ruled out from consideration for the training camp due to Covid-19 travel restrictions applicable to them, or through injury. Two Westmeath students who were due to volunteer in Uganda for three weeks this summer have said they are determined to try to make the trip next year, after Covid forced them to cancel the journey. World 10,000m champion Joshua Cheptegei and world 3000m leader Jacob Kiplimo are among the athletes selected to represent Uganda at the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Gdynia 2020 on 17 October. Cheptegei, the world cross-country champion, broke the world 5000m record at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Monaco last month with 12:35.36 and is targeting a tilt on the 10,000m mark on 7 October before heading to Poland. All indications are that a dead year will not be declared, schools will reopen later this month, and national exams usually set by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) in November and December, will go ahead, in March 2021. According to a letter recently written by the Minister of Education Janet Kataha Museveni to Finance Minister Matia Kasaija seeking the release of capitation grants to schools, the focus will be on candidate classes to resume, for what would be a second term, on September 20, this year. Inspired by Joshua Cheptegei's 5,000m world record performance in Paris a couple of weeks ago, Jacob Kiplimo defied fitness doubts to win the 5,000m at the 59th Ostrava Golden Spike in the Czech Republic. He won in a meet record time of 12:48:63. It was an incredible recovery from Kiplimo, who looked gone on halfway. In Manchester, Kiplimo hit the front early and never looked back as he came home in a time of 27:31 - the fourth-fastest time for 10km on the roads last year.
