By Keefa Nuwahereza Locusts Move Closer To Uganda's BordersThe country is headed for catastrophe after reports coming indicate that the locusts are now 500 meters away from entering Uganda. According to environmentalists,  it is highly anticipated that by Tuesday the devastating insects will be already in Uganda, especially in areas near the borders of Uganda with Kenya. Locusts have so far invaded countries like Somalia, Kenya, Yemen and other countries. It should however be noted that government last week released Shs15Bn to help the ministry of Agriculture, fisheries and Animal Husbandry to fight the locust invasion. United Nations Calls For Global Intervention In Locust Invasion

By Keefa Nuwahereza The United Nation (UN) Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) has called for international intervention/aid to "avert any threats to food security, livelihoods, malnutrition" so as to mitigate the locus invasion, which is likely to worsen famine levels in parts of Africa. . It requires USD10m for the campaign. Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia are struggling with "unprecedented" and "devastating" swarms of the food-eating locusts, the FAO has said, fearing locust numbers could grow 500 times by June, invading neighbouring countries like Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi and DR Congo.
