Ssemujju to quit FDC

Kira Municipality member of parliament who is also the spokesperson of the Forum for Democratic Change based at Katonga Road in Kampala Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has said he will be leaving the party next year. Ssemujju said there is no future for him in the party he has belonged to for the last 13 years. According to the law, any elected official is free to change political affiliation without losing his/her seat in the last year of his/her term of office. For the 2021-26 term, the last year of term of office will begin in May 2025. Ssemujju is one of the senior leaders of the FDC that broke ranks with the leadership of party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat and secretary general Nathan Nandala Mafabi after they accused them of taking money from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during the general elections of 2021. Since then, the party has split into two with one group remaining at Najjanankumbi and the other now headed by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago pitching camp at Katonga road in Kampala. In the interview with Muhammad Kakembo, Ssemujju said, the takeover of the FDC was complete that even when they are the legitimate leaders, the Nandala-Amuriat group has got the recognition of the state and continuing fighting it would be a waste of time that should be dedicated to fighting the leadership of President Museveni.
