Police in Kisoro District are investigating circumstances under which a pupil of Kisoro primary school died after being assaulted by the teacher.
The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate said that the incident was reported by the deceased’s father, Hillary Tumusiime a resident of Ruburankono village in Gasiza Parish in Nyakabande Sub County.
Tumusiime who is a Boda Boda rider in Kisoro Municipality said that his son Dan Gasore was allegedly assaulted by Hakizimana a teacher at Mutorole Primary school who has since gone into hiding.
It’s alleged that on the March 9th, 2023, while at Mutorole Primary school the deceased was assaulted by his teacher on the head and the back allegedly for not understanding what was being taught.
Maate said that when the child went back home crying he was taken to a clinic for treatment but on March 11th, 2023, the situation worsened while bleeding from the nose and was rushed to Kisoro Hospital for further treatment where he died from a few minutes after being admitted.
Maate said that the Police was alerted, and a case was registered, and the body was taken back to the Hospital for postmortem examination which was done to enable the Police carry out inquiries in efforts to arrest the suspect and the case was registered under reference number CRB 178/2023
