A woman who went missing over the weekend on her wedding has reemerged and told police that she didn’t like the man her parents chose for her.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, Bushira Najjuuko, a resident of Katereke Cell, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district who had been reported missing reappeared on Tuesday and reported herself to Nsangi police station.
“She told Police that she was not interested in the man the family wants her to get married to. Najjuko told Police that instead she was interested in another man whom the family doesn’t want,” Onyango said.
In the statement recorded at police, Najjuuko said that she decided to disappear to show the family that she is only interested in the man they don’t want and could do anything to prove this to the parents.
“She told Police that she bought the shoes and dresses with the money the family gave her for shopping and she sent a boda boda rider to take them home to show them that she doesn’t want the man.” Onyango said
In her statement, Najjuuko said that she was feared missing, however, she had decided to go to a friend’s home in Zana on her wedding day where she stayed all this time.
She was, however, handed over to the parents. Onyango then warned parents against forcing children into marriage.
“We appeal to parents not to force their children into marriage that they don’t want.”
