The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party secretariat has begun facilitating candidates for all elective positions in the ongoing campaigns drive towards the 2020/2021 General Elections.
In an internal memo issued to all NRM district chairpersons, from the Secretary General Kasule Lumumba, the money is meant to facilitate procurement of campaign logistics and materials to support, including procurement of posters, transport, airtime, water and refreshments for task forces and campaign agents, among other things.
NRM has also given an additional UGX. 3,000, 000/= to Flag Bearers for Member of Parliament as refund for nomination fees paid to the Electoral Commission.
The memo further categorizes the facilitation as follows:
Flag Bearers for Member of Parliament.
a) Each directly elected Constituency Candidate, is entitled to a total facilitation of UGX. 40,000,000/=; of which a part facilitation amounting to UGX. 20,000,000/=, has already been remitted to the candidate.
b) Each District Woman Representative Candidate, is entitled to a facilitation of UGX. 50,000,000/=; of which a part facilitation amounting to UGX. 25,000,000/=; has already been remitted directly to the Candidates.
c) Each Candidate for the Special Interest Group Representative (National), is entitled to a total facilitation of UGX. 80,000,000/=; of which a part facilitation amounting to UGX. 40,000,000/=; has already been remitted directly to the Candidates.
d) Each Candidate for the Special Interest Group Representative (Regional), is entitled to a total facilitation of UGX. 60,000,000/=; of which a part facilitation amounting to UGX. 30,000,000/=, has already been remitted /received.
