Mukono Municipality Residents Decry The Poor State Of  UCU – Bugujju Kirowooza Road.

Residents and the business community along Bishop Tucker road in Mukono municipality, have raised concern about the poor road network, traders say they are counting losses due to the dusty situation on this road. it’s construction has since failed to take off in the past two years despite the presidential directive to construct it in 2020.

On a daily basis, many motorists use this Bishop Tucker road as an emergency route to avoid the devastating traffic Jam along Jinja – Kampala highway, through this Bishop Tucker is always a busy road from Monday to Friday as motorists use it as an emergency route to avoid traffic jams on the Kampala – Jinja highway, causing dust to rise, which ends up in people’s businesses.

Mukulu Herbert, who owns a fast food restaurant along Bishop Tucker road, expressed dismay over the poor state of the road saying that he is now incurring losses as customers shun his business due to the dust.

“Iam making a lot of losses at my restaurant. Customers no longer want to dine in my restaurant because of the dust everywhere.” Mukulu notes

The business community said that it’s very unfair for the Mukono municipality authorities to hike and collect taxes from them yet the service delivery on ground is poor, so they appealed to the municipality to consider working on the road.

“It’s not fair for the municipality to collect taxes from our non working businesses let them construct the road” Road side vendors noted

The Mukono municipality Engineer, Haruna Ssebaduka said that the above road is not under their jurisdiction saying it’s under UNRA and that they cannot allocate their resources on it.

“We are supposed to turmak 2 kilometers that is from wandegeya to Bugujju the rest is for UNRA from Bugguju to Rest gardens Bweyogerere.” Haruna said

George Masengere the Mukono municipality spokesperson noted the directive was written to the Uganda national roads authority directing them to do the construction not to the municipality.

While at the Uganda christian university in 2020, president Yoweri Museveni pledged to construct the as the way of uplifting the image of Uganda christian university, since the road has never been done.
