Former Obote minister  Kanyomozi dead.

Another former government minister has passed on at a Kampala-based hospital where he was receiving treatment.
Yona (Yonasani) Kanyomozi, who served as the Minister in charge of Cooperatives and Marketing, in Apollo Milton Obote’s Government, was pronounced dead on Sunday, August 28, 2022.
Kanyomozi belonged to Obote’s Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).
He also represented the people of Bushenyi South Constituency during Obote II’s reign.
Kanyomozi was also the representative for Kajara County in the National Resistance Council (NRC) from 1989 to 1996.
Kanyomozi has been a strong opponent of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.
In one of his last shows on NBS TV’s Morning Breeze show early this month, Kanyomozi said that it was possible to end misrule in Uganda if citizens unite. He also claimed that the Museveni regime was keen on holding power at all costs.
“We can unstick ourselves when we come together. It is not easy, but it has been done in other countries like Sri Lanka. We can appeal to the people in power to look at the country’s sanity, not at themselves,” Kanyomozi said.
“The problem with this country is that we don’t have an ideological direction. The ruling party has an ideology of keeping power at all costs, and the opposition is in a state of lax.”
He was pronounced dead at the Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.
Kanyomozi’s death happened hours after government released the burial program for former minister Gen Elly Tumwine.
