The police in Kabale are investigating the death of PC Komuhangi Caroline, a 23-year-old police officer attached to the Kabale police station’s FFU department. According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the deceased was allegedly shot by a friend named Denis Arinitwe, who is currently in police custody.
On March 18, 2023, at around 6 pm, Caroline signed for a gun and went on duty. She returned from duty the next morning, March 19, 2023, at around 6:30 am and was resting when Denis visited her.
Allegedly, the two got into a quarrel, and as Caroline tried to escape outside running, Denis picked up a gun and shot her from the back, once, and twice on the shoulder, killing her on the spot.
Denis was restrained and arrested by the police and was taken to Kabale Hospital for treatment under guard as he was also injured, either during the scuffle or by trying to commit suicide by shooting himself through the nose. The Kabale homicide team led by Kigezi regional SOCO D/AIP Mugabe Derrick visited and processed the scene.
The police recovered cartridges and a rifle with suspected bloodstains, retrieved Caroline’s body, and took it to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.
