A private security guard is in trouble for kidnap of a minor in Nakawa division, Kampala city. The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire has identified the suspect as Steven Mugisa, a resident of the Upper Kazinga zone in Nakawa division. According to Owoyesigyire, Mugisa was picked up while demanding a ransom of Shillings 20 million from the minor’s parents. He was arrested in an operation that followed the kidnap of 2-year-old Isabella Musimenta, a daughter of Herman Mugarura. “The suspect who was in hiding was tracked and later arrested on Tuesday and the child was also rescued alive. Lango sub-region has received with shock the news of the demise of Supreme Court Justice, Ruby Opio Aweri. He passed on Wednesday morning from Mulago National Referral Hospital where he was admitted two weeks ago. His death shocked the entire sub-region where people described him as a jolly, down-to-earth, hardworking, humble, and selfless servant. Supreme Court Judge, Ruby Opio Aweri is dead. In a brief message, Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo said Justice Opio breathed his last at Mulago Specialised Hospital in Kampala today, Wednesday 7th December 2022. He however didn’t divulge details. Justice Opio joined the Judiciary as a Magistrate Grade One in 1983, and rose through the ranks to a justice of the Supreme Court, a position he held until the time of his passing. According to the Chief Justice, as a career Judicial officer, Justice Opio Aweri was appointed Judge of the High Court in 1998 and later elevated to a justice of the Court of Appeal in 2013, and the Supreme Court in 2015. Source: BBC Kenya plans to abolish boarding schools next year for students up to grade nine (about 14-15 years), which includes primary and junior secondary schools. Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang told a head teachers’ conference that parents would have to take their children to day schools. He said the government had made the decision to allow children to be under the care of their parents or guardians. Children from nomadic pastoralist communities will however be exempt from the rules. Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI) has released the deputy head of the sect of Jamatil Salafiya Tabliq Muslim Community Sheikh Yahya Mwanje on bond. Sheikh Mwanje, who was arrested by unidentified gunmen driving in a drone on November 28 from Nakasero Mosque, was freed last evening a few hours after Members of Parliament under the Muslim Parliamentary Caucus demanded unconditional release.
